ZACH PRUNTY WINS ON REMEMBRANCE NIGHT AT SLINGER
Zach Prunty charged from 10th to first, taking the lead on a late restart to win the Remembrance Night 55-lap late model feature at Slinger Speedway. He held off Evan Hassler and Jesse Bernhagen in a dramatic finish after setting fast time earlier in the night.
Slinger, Wis., June 1—Zach Prunty took the lead on a late restart and held off Evan Hassler and Jesse Bernhagen to win the Johnson and Sons Paving Remembrance Night 55-lap Uptown Motor Cars late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway.
“It’s been a long time coming to get here and set fast and get a feature win on the same night,” Prunty said from victory lane, “honestly, it feels great.”
“It was a great long run to start there and I did need a caution there so I can’t really complain,” Prunty continued after advancing from his tenth starting position to fourth in the opening 37 green flag laps before a trio of cautions allowed him to take the lead from Evan Hassler using the inside lane on a restart, “Normally I don’t like cautions because I have a better long run car but we got it done tonight.”
“We had a short run car here but it just didn’t work,” second place finisher Evan Hassler said afterwards, “I tried to get Zach (Prunty) the right way but just couldn’t do it. It’s pretty cool to do what we do. We’re a low budget team and I pay for everything on this car myself and it feels pretty cool to get a second place.”
“The car was fast and if we were able to catch the cautions right and get out front I don’t think they could’ve passed us,” Jesse Bernhagen stated after his third-place result directly in the tire tracks of the top two finishers, “But I don’t think we were good enough to pass them without moving them. That last lap got exciting on the backstretch and I was able to jump to the outside of Evan (Hassler) but just couldn’t quite get it done.”
